Ingredients:
1/4 cup coconut milk (homemade or canned) 1/3 cup Liquid Castile Soap 20 drops of Essential Oils of choice ** Optional: 1/2 tsp olive or almond oil ** l've used peppermint, lavender, rosemary, orange and combinations of these. Directions: Combine all ingredients in an old shampoo bottle or jar of some kind (pump soap dispensers and even foaming dispensers work well for this. If you use a foaming dispenser, add ¼ cup of distilled water) Shake well to mix. Keep in shower for up to a month. Shake before each use. |

Ingredients:
4 tbsp. african black soap crumbled into pieces. 1 cup of hot water 2 tbsp. agave nectar 3 tbsp. grape seed oil (or another oil of your choice) Directions: Mix all the ingredients together in a glass jar with a lid, or a plastic bottle. Shake well and allow it to cool a little before you use it. This shouldn't take long, but the hot water will cause the mixture to be pretty warm, and as it cools, the mixture will thicken and be easier to apply, as well as easier on your hair. Use half the mixture to wash your hair and save the rest for your next wash. |

Ingredients:
1 - 2 tbsp cider vinegar 1/2 cup water Optional oil Massage (for afterwards) Base oils e.g. argan, jojoba, rosehip etc. Essential oils e.g. tea tree, lavender etc. More information abut face & head oils here Directions: Simply mix these two together into a spray container, gently shake and then spray onto your hair as shampoo. You won't get any froth though but if you are looking for the simple approach, the baking soda will do the job for you none the less. Apply the same principles to the apple cider vinegar conditioner rinse and then when finished, gently massage the oils into your hair to give you a nice and fresh after smell. |

Ingredients:
Small amount of jojoba, olive, or coconut oil Herb mixture of choice (optional) Essential oils of choice (optional) Directions: Warm the oil to 100-105 degrees in a double boiler. If using, add herbs and essential oils. Dampen your hair. For long or thick hair, use 1-2 teaspoons of the oil mixture, and for fine or short hair, use 1/4 teaspoon of the mixture. Massage oil into the scalp and work through the strands, covering all hair completely. Cover hair with a shower cap or plastic bag and if possible sit in the sun or by the woodstove. Heat facilitates the process. Leave the oil in for an hour or two, and then, shampoo and rinse. |

Ingredients:
4 tbsp carnauba wax (vegan alternative to beeswax) 4 tbsp shea butter (or coconut oil will also do - shea butter is less greasy though) 4 tbsp jojoba oil ** 2 tbsp arrowroot powder or corn starch *** optional: 1 tsp vitamin E oil optional: essential oils for added scent ** you can use any other carrier oil here, such as almond, apricot kernel, olive oil etc. *** this will help to take some of the grease out from the oils. If you like a little bit of glossy shine then don’t worry about this option. Directions: In a double boiler, (I usually use a pyrex bowl in a sauce pan of boiling water as my makeshift double boiler) melt the beeswax and shea butter, stirring every so often. When the carnauba wax and shea butter is melted, allow to sit on heat for 20 minutes to process the shea butter. Mix together arrowroot powder and jojoba oil in a small bowl, until arrowroot is dissolved into the oil. If using Vitamin E to lengthen the shelf life of the pomade, poke the vitamin E pills squeezing the contents into the bowl and let cool until hardened. Remove shea/wax mixture from heat, and add arrowroot/jojoba oil mixture. Using your hand mixer, blend the hair pomade until it begins to turn into a pudding/taffy life texture. Scoop into metal tins and store in a cool dark place. Use only a small pea sized amount on hair. A little goes a long way! |
