May all beings be infinitely happy and free from suffering.
Understanding SufferingIt is a very sad fact, that we will all face suffering at some stage of our life. Whether this be through sickness, dis-ease, mental disturbances, physical deterioration or emotional disturbances; it is inevitable that we will all experience some kind of suffering whilst we are here on this earth.
And as depressing as this may seem, it is important to understand that suffering does actually play a very noble and important role in our life. As we will see, suffering can help us to purify, to learn and it can help us to feel more compassion in our lives. It can even help us to feel a sense of accomplishment once we have broken through to that higher ground. So whilst suffering is something which we never ever wish for in our lives, it is something that can actually be helpful for us as we continue forwards on our pathway towards the light. In our experiences, it can often help to have a good understanding of suffering so that we can more easily move through what can otherwise be very challenging times. |

The cause of these old or unwanted energies is often our own thought patterns; thought patterns that have built up over many years and even lifetimes. These energies or thought forms will often arise to the surface (when they are ready to) and will start to be released from your energy system. As this process happens, it is very likely that you will feel some sort of physical, mental or emotional ailment as a result. And as you move through this, you will become more purified as you release these old or more negative energies.
In this way, we can start to view suffering as if it were a process of purification this is actually a very similar process which happens when you do any kind of cleanse or detox. The types of suffering will often vary greatly from person to person and will always depend on the karmic circumstances of each individual. In all cases though, the past thought forms and intentions will now be released and you can now find a renewed sense of energetic balance. |
At a deeper and perhaps more spiritual level, it is often said that an experiential understanding of suffering can also help with an understanding of compassion and a reducing of our ego. When we suffer, we can perhaps feel a deeper sense of compassion or empathy for another who may be experiencing similar types of suffering. And it is here that we can start to harness these compassionate feelings during these more difficult times (to help us through the suffering) by saying a small prayer or positive statement:
