The 11 Maitri Precepts
(The 11 Principles of Loving Kindness)
(The 11 Principles of Loving Kindness)
1. Never discriminate on the basis of name, appearance, complexion, class, faith, community, power, position, ability, qualification and so forth; give up all discord, whether it be worldly or spiritual.
2. Having found the eternal dharma, the path and the Guru; respect all dharmas, religions and faiths. 3. Never create rifts or doubt with untruth, accusations, counter-accusations, blaming, belittling or baseless chatter. 4. Abandon all teachings and paths that lead to separation, discord or divisiveness; embrace the true path. 5. Following the true Guru path for as long as one lives, abandon all non-virtuous actions and always be absorbed in the *Guru Essence, becoming part of it. 6. Not having reached a full understanding of the *Guru Essence, refrain from trying to describe it to others with clever words; whilst still in confusion, do not confuse others. 7. Abandon all demonic behaviour such as killing, violence, hurting or harming living beings; choose pure nourishment. 8. Do not think less of people or countries on the basis of national identity. 9. Following the true Guru Path, perform actions that are beneficial to the whole world, including oneself. 10. Having realised the truth, the Guru Path takes form; become one with the *Guru Essence for the benefit of all beings. 11. Staying in the highest and deepest states of awareness, assimilate and internalise these precepts and be free from all bondage. * Guru Essence can also be translated to mean Divine Essence, God Essence, Infinite Creator or anything of this nature. |
