The Importance Of NourishmentIn a world filled with fast food, processed food, preservatives, additives, white grains and less heritage seeds, it is important to keep our bodies well nourished. Here we discuss some of the very best ways that you can nourish your body very quickly and effectively.
For many people, when they think of nourishment, they think of eating fruits and vegetables and whilst this is most certainly true, there are also a number of other things that can help with nourishing your body which is much more effective and will have a faster impact on your life. |

Go Organic
Choosing an organic diet means that your body can receive a wonderful amount of natural nutrition, good vitamins & minerals as well as natural enzymes just as nature intended. You can also relax knowing that there are no harmful toxins going into your bloodstream as a result of farmers spraying the crops.
Your liver will thank you for this decision as it is not being burdened with trying to rid the body of these pesticides and herbicides and as a result you will likely feel more health, energy and vitality in the longer term. |
More RawWhen we eat raw, it allows our bodies to get all those deliciously good enzymes and life force from the food, especially if you can eat it just after it has been freshly picked or sprouted!
Introducing raw foods into your diet is one of the easiest and most important things you can do to bring more nourishment into your life. But this doesn't mean that you just have to eat plain and boring foods, check out the image of this totally raw strawberry cheesecake made from a variety of fruits and nuts - and it's absolutely delicious! You can find more recipes like this in our Raw Food section. |
More SuperfoodsWhen you search for 'superfoods' in google, you will often see a list of many different foods that people consider to be 'super' because of the high level of vitamins and minerals - as such there are commonly referred to as super foods. Some common superfoods are spirulina, chlorella, wheatgrasss, nettle, alfalfa, apples, garlic, barley leaf, broccoli and many more.
And in the interests of giving ourselves a nutrient blast, especially for those who are experiencing some kind of serious illness or disease, why not try some superfoods to give your body what it needs to heal itself! There is no greater way to get nutrition into your body than to follow this one simple strategy. For example, by adding just a small amount of 'greens powder' to your daily diet can provide you with a wide array of wonderful nutrients that your body will be so incredibly grateful for! |
More Juices & SmoothiesIf you think about how many fruits & vegetables goes into one juice, its a lot! And when you combine this with the understanding that slow pressed juicers still give you the same basic amount of nutrients in the juice as you would get in the food itself, it really does make a lot of sense to introduce juicing as a super fast way to get nutrients into the body.
Could you eat 2 apples, 2 carrots, 1/2 pineapple, 1/4 cucumber and 1 banana in one sitting? Probably yes, but it would be much easier to just drink this as a juice or smoothie. Juicing is another amazing way to get lots of nutrients into your system at a very fast rate and when combined with superfood powders, it is an unbeatable combination! |
Eliminate Meat
There is a famous naturopath in the USA who used to tell his seriously or terminally ill patients to do 3 important things for effective nourishing:
1. Take super-foods powder 2. Juice as much as possible 3. Give up meat (entirely) There is a growing amount of evidence which show that meat (and animal based proteins) are the leading causes of disease. In addition to this, there are many karmic consequences which are crated with the consumption of meat. All of these are great reasons to eliminate (or reduce) meat from our diet. For those who wish to learn more about the impact of meat in our life we lovingly recommend 'What The Health' & 'Forks Over Knifes' (available on Netflix). |
Reduce Dairy
It is a little known fact that animal based protein from diary products can actually promote cancer growth within the body. It is also a little known fact that the consumption of milk can actually add to the risk of osteoporosis.
These statistics (ad much more) are just now surfacing and it shows us that dairy products can have a detrimental affect on our heath. One doctor who has been instrumental in bringing this understanding to the world is Dr. Colin Campbell (PHD) who did numerous nutrition based studies worldwide to asses the role of dairy and meat in the development of disease. |
Less Processed FoodsWith most of us being time poor, convenience foods are now at an all time high. This includes many kinds of fast foods and particularly, processed foods that we can either snack on or throw together at the last minute to make a meal.
What we don't see though is that there are many not so nice things going into these so called 'foods' that we don't know about. For example, anything which starts with an E on the label will probably not be good for your body. So if we can, it is best to reduce processed foods and add more wholesome, healthy and 'real' foods into your diet. See our food inspiration section for more details. |
Grow Your OwnThere is something about growing your own food that is satisfying on many different levels. Firstly, the cost - super duper cheap. Secondly, the idea that you have grown it - totally satisfying. Thirdly, it can be organic. Fourthly, you are eating just as you pick it to lock in nutrients and finally, it tastes delicious!
And whilst many people will not have a lot of time to dedicate to growing their own vegetables, this is certainly something that will add to your level of nourishment because you are eating your own organically grown vegetables as soon as they are picked i.e. they are loaded with life force! |
Go WildMany of us don't realise that there are many weeds growing in your garden right now that are edible and incredibly nutritious. Take for example the idea of stinging nettle, this 'weed' that grows here in New Zealand is said to be loaded with more nutrition than wheatgrass. You can dehydrate this and then grind it up with some other greens edibles to make your own free 'super-greens' powder!
Normally, when starting out with wild foods, we suggest that you introduce these into your diet bit by bit. So for example, you might chop up a few dandelion leaves from your garden lawn and throw this into a stir fry with other veggies to add to the flavours of your overall dish. Remember, proportion is everything! This video by Sergei Boutenko (an expert on wild foods) will introduce you to some of the different wild foods that you might be growing in your garden right now and best of all - they're all free! |
